Rita’s practice explores the relationship between abstraction, memory and emotion.
Through an intuitive layering process that acts as visual traces of time and place, she creates images formed from small details in her everyday life. She explores ideas of fragmentation and reconstruction by physically cutting the canvases and sewing them back together to form new and final compositions, that reflect the changing and subjective nature of memory.
Colour, form and material are central to the process, allowing her to explore how memories are recalled, altered and reinterpreted through personal experience.
